We got to the campsite after about an 80 km drive from Winnipeg, a little more than we had bargained for but the park looked great! Once in the park we found that they had room for us (something which we have been really lucky with thus far!) We drove through the campsite and found a few we liked before going back to the ranger shack to pay and get our site. Our first choices were 12, 13, 15 and 16, but shortly thereafter we were set up in beautiful site number 10 in bay 6 (apparently we were not the only people who liked those sites)
Once setup was done we made our way to west beach, Lake Winnipeg, a short 5-10 minute walk from the site still in the general park. Upon getting to the beach we found a beautiful white sand beach and a huge lake... a huge brown lake. The lake was so big we couldn't see the other side. The swimming area was roped off, unfortunately there were people out near the far reaches of the area that were still standing. It was no Sproat Lake but we went in right away anyway, or right away after Jen found some sunscreen.
After a swim around and a quick towel off (no need to risk the itch on the trip) we made our way to our towels to make it look like we have found some summer along the route, at least somewhere other than my driving or my passengering arm!
While we were sitting on the beach, a family came out of the water and sat down on their towels which we had conveniently sat near. The mother of the group proceeded to inform her husband (who was on the beach with what appeared to be the youngest boy building a sand castle) that there was a ..
After a good shower and some dinner, we retired to the tent for some reading.... yes reading. I, Craig read. I think the only thing keeping Jenny sane on this trip is the escape to her book and the quiet from me! Not that she would admit it, it has been a great trip for me and she says the same ...sometimes with in less words... but most of the time it is more, also good.
Just prior to lights out we were lucky enough to be serenaded by a chorus from Enrique Iglasias and Pit Bull... not bedtime music. Not at all... Lucky for Jenny, I snore from time to time (though more often than not I talk in my sleep), as a result I packed a large bag of ear plugs. Tonight we will both plug up. Apparently it worked because Jen fell asleep during the racket and when I finished reading I thought they turned it off... as it turns out they turned it off at about 430 am ... we fell asleep at 9 pm. Couldn't have worked out better. Surprisingly enough they were back at it at 730 am the next morning. Oh but don't worry I gave them my best Moose Jaw Tunnels inspired Scarface look I could drum up on our way out. All Jenny commented on was how cool they thought they were... her sarcasm was well placed.
Finally I we would like to thank you all for your comments, we have fun reading them and while we don't necessarily have time to reply to them we do thank you for them! Hope you all are enjoying the adventure as much as we are!
