Frank, Morgaine, Julie and Ken were waiting for me at the airport. They asked if I was o.k. with heading to Namibia over night after picking up our last companion, Mycol, at 10 p.m. In the mean time we would go to one of Capetowns many spectacular wineries, the oldest white winery on the continent, in fact.

That sounded great to me, though I was hoping to see the beaches there. Capetown has some incredible scenery, and the utmost diversity in all aspects. However, it was very first world and not the Afrika I wanted to get into.

The winery was beautiful. I refrained from tasting, though it was a steal at $3 for all the tasting you wanted. We walked the vineyards, harvesting nasturtium, acorns, a puffball and a few sprigs of rosemary. We had a picnic dinner and great conversation at sunset. Then we went to pick up Mycol, back at the airport.

He was on time, I changed some money, and we were off to Namibia. A good, old-fashioned American road trip... in Afrika!!

We've rented a very new and nice Kia van (same as a VW vanagon). It's a manual diesel, and we're all learning well to drive on the left side of the road.
