We got back onto the 401 heading east and by the time we got in and around the Kingston area, the traffic was HEAVY. I asked Jen to check the maps to see if we could perhaps get off the 401, but by the time we reached the other side of Kingston, the traffic was back to normal, busy but in excess of the speed limit. So we continued along the 401 to Highway 416 heading north to Ottawa. We arrived at John and Anne Somerville's place on the south side of Ottawa about 3:30 pm.
It was really nice to see my old friend John - we worked for Systems Dimensions Ltd. back in the 1970. I was there for a year: John was there longer. John worked for SDL in Toronto and I frequently spoke to him on the phone. One day we decided that we should meet face-to-face and we did. That was 39 years ago!
As the Somerville's owed us a dinner (I don't remember but I wasn't about to argue!) they took us to a very nice Italian restaurant a short distance away. Everything on the menu looked good but after 4 days of stuffing ourselves, we both opted for something a little lighter - mine was a "small" pizza that I ate ½ of. Okay, so I had a really nice chocolat mousse cake for dessert (but I did share it).
After dinner we headed back to the house, pulled up a comfy chair and continued chatting until about 11:30 when we decided to call it a day.
