Where I stayed
Christchurch rail station
missed my chance to see some in Melbourne so really wanted to see some here
we arived in Omarau just before lunch and found a campsite, and got set up
we then got lunch and ventured to try and see the yellow eyed penguins which are one of the rarest penguins in the species in the world
such a FREEZING day and a local tried to help us ee them, you can only see them at 4pm-7pm but we wewre not hanging around as we didnt have the correct clothing on
no car so 3mile walk to get to the coast, ut we fortunately got lift from a lovely Kiwi couple on the way back and they invited us to see the elephant rocks, these rocks are where Narnia was filmed, if it wasnt so cold then maybe would have stayed longer, they were iteresting to see though, and are called this due to the colour not the shape, Andy and Anje was awesome Kiwis and the journey up there and talking to them was wicked!!! so lovely, i heard Kiwis pick up and are lovely and will help out, these were an example,. they had wicked travel stories too, great peopel!!!
then baked beans and chill out eveing
yesterday we looked at the museum of Oamura, not very good, or big, but facts on the bohere war was cool to see. also saw the art galery all done by an oamoru resident, who is now a famous artist, interesting exhibitions again
the rest of the town was deserted due to the crimbo break
we aimed again to see some yellow eyed penguins, and we did!! we walked to the colony a different path along the coast, basically dont look down!!!, dodgy walking path pon the coast, but got to see some well cute sea lions!!
we took up a tranjere and cooked dinner up there, it was packed full of tourists, and the yellow eyed penguins are protected and maintined by volunteers, one of the volunteers who was scottish comes up evry week and Johnny and i are now on the volunteer website because we cooked and brought up food, not done before
the penguins were so cute!!
we then tried to see the blue colony for free, because you have to pay a stupid amoutn to see them, which is wrong because they are naturally in the wild, problem with NZ is they try to make money out of everything they can
saved money today though after arrivign into Christchurch, train booked tomorwo, plan to camp at the station, as the train leaves at 7 in the morning, and the station is far out form the city so no point of paying for a room if we werent going to be in that long
took 2hrs to the station
freezing cold but got through it and saved money
