I made it to Delhi without too much trouble. All the flights were fine and it wasn't as terrible as my last big continent changing flights! The only annoying thing was the couple behind me who banged on the back of my chair everytime I put it back. And, several times asked me to move it forward, so they could fill out customs papers, play with a baby (that wasn't their's and pulled my hair), and to eat.  Slightly annoying!

I was pleasantly surprised by how smoothly everything went on my arrival-orderly lines for customs and waiting for baggage. Everyone I spoke to told me it would be pure chaos. Sita's (one of my supervisors from PS 86) mom (Katie) had very nicely offered to have me stay at her house for my time in Delhi. She even arranged for a taxi to meet my plane. It was a relief to know that I wouldn't have to do it on my own (which I have heard can be a nightmare). The trip from the airport to Katie's house was a bit scary. One of those country's where you're not really sure why anyone bothered to paint lines on the road. And I don't think I have EVER heard so many horns being honked. I really couldn't tell what they were honking it. But, it was incessant. We made it there safely and Katie warmly welcomed me into her home. Her maids made me a cup of coffe and carried my stuff to my room and I spent the afternoon relaxing. Had a lovely warm shower and a nap in a great big comfortable bed where I didn't have to worry about bugs or dirty sheets or anything! I was a bit spoiled in my week at Katie's. She took very good care of me. I felt very safe, which I needed, after my week in Tanzania where I was nervous the whole time.

Katie arranged a car and driver for me for my days there. It costs about $2 an hour to have a car and driver. $16 and you have a driver for the whole day who will take you anywhere! It's great. I visited many of the sights, without any of the hassle of having to find them.

honk honk
i miss indian honking! we decided it was more of a 'i'm passing you' / 'just letting you know i'm here' kinda honk, instead of the 'hey watch out!' honk that we are used to :)

look at you being treated like the princess of delhi - must have been nice! can't wait to see pics!

hey, at least your blog is caught up to the right continent now :). can't wait to hear more!

Re: honk honk
Whatever kind of honking it was it was still awful. I never got used to it, even after 3 months in India. Although, 5 of my weeks were in a quiet little hill town so not too much honking there. When I got to Thailand, people were complaining about the honking but I just thought it was such a relief compared to Delhi!
