Doctor
Entry 13 of 73 | show all | print this entry |
So, after being sick for over a week, not being able to eat much of anything (a few pieces of bread a day), and being bored out of my mind, I finally went to the doctor. My friend, Stephanie (a nurse), went with me which was good because I was pretty scared to go on my own. It wasn´t too bad however. We were told it would be a 5 minute wait but ended up taking about 30 minutes (which is still a lot less then I usually wait at home). The doctor spoke English which was helpful because I was a bit to upset to be speaking in Spanish. Did all the usual stuff...blood pressure, pulse, temperature, looked in my ears and throat. There was no cover on the thermometer, which tasted a bit funny. I tried to convince myself that it tasted like something that he´d used to clean it but I´m pretty sure it just tasted like someone else´s saliva. Yuck! He did not put any special cover on the ear thing either and then he picked up a random tongue depressor that was lying on the table. However, he didn´t put it in my mouth, just was holding it. I was very relieved when they went to take my blood and used a clean needle and put gloves on. Stephanie watched that part and said everything was fine! The doctor decided that I had a parasite and prescribed me some antiparasite medicine and also some antibiotics. Not sure why I got the antibiotics since my blood test came back negative for anything requiring antibiotics (salmonella is what he was looking for) but maybe it was because of my cold like symptoms which I was worried might be a sinus infection. The whole thing cost me about $66, including the medications! I feel a lot better just having gone to the doctor and gotten it over with and hope that the meds help and I can finally get to some more traveling.
