Walking
Entry 12 of 73 | show all | print this entry |
I am still in Cusco. It´s a week since I was supposed to have gone to Bolivia but, although my stomach has gotten better, I now have a terrible cold. If I did not have a year to enjoy my traveling, I would probably have just sucked it up and gone traveling anyway, however, seeing as I have time to spare, I figure it is fine to wait around in Cusco a bit longer till I am all better. My days do seem to go by quickly although I haven´t been doing much. Spending a lot of time sleeping, reading, and chatting with my host family (which is good...helps my Spanish). Yesterday, however, I was beginning to get a little stir crazy and decided to take a walk. Had no place in mind, just decided to walk down a street I had never been before. I was definitely in a non-tourist area. Didn´t see a hostel in the whole 2 hours I was wondering. No ´Menu Toristicos´ anywhere. The most expensive set lunch menu I saw was 2.5 soles. Ended up in a market, definitely a locals market. Found myself in the meat section and saw a few things I have never seen before. If you don´t have a strong stomach, don´t look at the photos. I was susprised that I was fine with it all as usually I tend to get a little queezy around things like that. I felt a little bad taking pictures but I asked all the ladies at the stalls before I took them and they all said ok.
At some point my nose was running and I needed some tissues. Saw a shop with rolls of toilet paper. Asked the man how much. He got out 2 rolls to ask which one I wanted. As I was looking for the money to pay, a lady came by to purchase some meat. I hadn´t really paid attention to the fact that it was also a butcher shop. He stuck his bare hand in a dish of meat, filled up a bag for the lady, then went back and picked up my toilet paper. I quietly snuck off and vowed never to buy toilet paper from shop that sells meat!
