Saw a hippo walking down the street yesterday as I left for my last (a morning) safari. I saw a black rhino (very rare), some giraffes, a lion, a few elephants, a pair of water buffalo and two white rhinos. Went on a boat ride through an estuary and got really up close and personal with some hippos and a croc - not pleasant beings!
Durban is very nice, and right on the Indian Ocean - the hotel is lovely and the town is very diverse (geographically and in terms of population). For some ridiculous reason that I don't know, I was sent to the penthouse (32 floors up) so I had pretty much a panoramic view of the city, and I have my own pool and garden. The current weather in South Africa is abnormal - it is snowing in Johannesburg now, there were major floods along the Garden Route (the south-southeastern coast), but Durban is warm and sunny (with some tropical winds). Went to an Indian market, the city gardens, and walked along the beach, stopping in at curios and the beachfront market.

I am having a lot of fun, and am looking forward to getting to CapeTown.
