We left Olympia after three nights, took a bus to Patra and then mucked around there until our midnight ferry to the island of Corfu. We had originally wanted to go to Kefalonia (of Captain Correlli's Mandolin fame) but it's very hard to get a ferry or accomodation for less than $300 a night. The ferry crossing took 7 hours. Ray tried to sleep in his chair and i slept on the floor - sore back, hips, butt... We are now on a quiet part of the island (everyone is orange again), staying at a run-down mickey-mouse campground, but at least we have our own cabin. Contrary to the website and what we based our decision on, the place has no internet (needed to book upcoming couchsurfing, not because i'm a geek), no laundry, no hot water, no running water in kitchen, no breakfast.  It's incredibly hot, high 30s every day, and no breeze unless you're on the beach, so we spend a lot of time there, or in the shade. I'm learning the Greek alphabet so am getting better at reading signs and stuff, although try as he might, Dimitris couldn't teach me to say thank you in Greek - it's just not as easy as gracias, merci, ta...!

We're pretty gutted about missing the Olympic coverage on telly - especially a NZ perspective, because, you wouldn't believe it, but the rest of the world doesn't care what happens in or to NZ. There's a big screen at the pub but they're only advertising Riverdance live from New York on Saturday night!

From here, in a few days we'll take the ferry to Italy and down to Sicily to see our friend Luca whom we met in Mexico. We're actually feeling pretty jaded from the travelling and being on the road for so long, and, (Dicky) our enthusiasm is waning somewhat. Still, trip of a lifetime, need to keep smelling the roses.
