Ray: Belize - Big boys, big tax
Entry 13 of 76 | show all | print this entry |
Belize. A small carribean country where there is a mix of spanish mexicans and west indians. strange after Mexico to see black people, your people Mike, and from the relative smallness of Mexicans to Afro Belize people, Creole I think they call themselves, as big if not not bigger than me!
The country itself had a nice feel to it but once we hit Belize city and the concrete buildings, narrow and dirty streets we couldn´t wait to leave. We felt more intimidated by people who basically got in your face asking for things. Other travellers had gone to the Cays, little islands Steve, for sun and surf. maybe we should have followed their lead.
Anyway, we decided to move on the following day. We soon realised that we would have to pay for the privilege of leaving the country, as we had to entering it a mere 24 hours earlier. With the bus driver giving the minimal of details we lugged our gear to the customs office, paid our fees and found he had taken the bus through without telling anyone. We followed others who looked like they knew where they were going. We walked through the gates, past the armed guards who watched us the entire way and finally found the bus parked a block away.
Where I stayed:
Two Sisters
