So we found ourselves a nice little spot to chill out for a couple of days and did we strut our stuff? Did we hell! It poured down for near enough two days solid and we absolutely didn't hang out with the surf dudes one little bit.
Our "kayaking with dolphins" trip (guaranteed sighting or come back tomorrow) was cancelled - twice - due to excessive swell on the ocean.
We did a photo shoot at the most Easterly spot on mainland Australia - but you probably wouldn't be able to pick us out because of the driving rain flying across the shot
We went for afternoon tea and cakes at Cape Byron tearoom - but it was shut.
Byron Bay is not, in my humble opinion, all it's cracked up to be!!!
But I did learn the delights of a card game called Grass. It could be my new favourite way of occupying myself when it's peeing down with rain outside. Oh, and we shifted some beer while playing. Oh, and we got told to shut up when the excitement of the game got too much at 11.30pm and all the good folk around us were tucked up in their tents (or in their cars if they were having water ingress issues as we did in the driving rain) listening to the pounding storm...
And when we'd quietened down, the night cleaner guy came to spring clean the barbeques next to us and suggested we might like to move as the chemicals he was using were a touch caustic. When he donned a white coverall suit and breathing apparatus - I kid you not!! - we did wonder if he might be serious. We're Brits though so we didn't move!!!
We are now the proud owners of two 12 foot by 10 foot tarps with associated rope and tent pegs which, since Byron, have worked admirably in keeping us dry while we've slept. Our pitch does however now resemble a gypsy campsite... Pity the neighbours!
