No idea who named the town and really can't think why. But that's where we ended up today. We had identified very little that we wanted to do/see up the East coast prior to Christchurch so we jumped in the car and drove. We stopped, under the promise of a coffee if I recall, for a short treck to MacLean Falls, which, like quite a lot of waterfalls we have walked to lately, was pretty impressive. Again, still too cold to tempt Neil into the pool for a dip (which he's desperate to do as he loves it). I didn't even get the coffee .

We also popped in to Dunedin for a drive through. Again, neither of us are too interested in the attributes that cities have (shops!) so we didn't linger except to walk up "the steepest residential street in the world" (according to the Guinness Book of Records). It was steep!

We drove best part of 450 kilometres in the day and rejected three campsites before ending up in Geraldine which, despite it's name, is a nice little town with the benefit of a decent campsite in the middle of it. We ate well at the Village pub and had a warm and dry night's sleep. Neil arose before 9am - most unusually - because "it's too hot in that tent"! He's sat serenading me with his guitar at the moment while we have a slow start to the day...

Becks on

Did you walk it in your jandals?! Can they not just call them flip-flops?????

Helen on

Well done for finding out what jandals are Becks - next test - what do they call them in Oz?? Dad's gonna have to learn a whole new set of lingo when he comes to us!!

cotysmore on

Well done Becks. Would be most pleased if you could also find the Ozzie name so I don't look like an entire pillock when I call for my "jandals"!!!

You'll have to do better than that, Hels - I am a child of the Neighbours / Home and Away generation! "Thongs", Phil, that's what you need to be asking for, if you can avoid smirking at the thought of some kind of posing pouch-type item!!! (Eugh, and I haven't had brekkie yet)

I think I might purchase any replacements before I reach Oz - just to save my embarrassment...
