Right, well we're now two days in and we've slept and slept well and we're now tuned in to the local timezone. In getting to that state, we've not ventured too far but simply explored the area around the hotel - and it's fantastic! The hotel is high (well, high for Indian, we think) quality and it's slap bang in the middle of Cavelossim, which is an old town that has become home to probably three big hotels and quite a munber of small "b&b" type hotels. The town is basically a single street, what, half a mile long containing the thee big hotels, brightly coloured houses and loads of ramshackle huts and stores. It's just what you might expect if you've seen the Hotel Marigold (or whatever it's called!) film.

Every, yes every, stall holder and shopkeeper has so far asked our names and I'm pretty sure that at least 50% have remembered them. [Jane: As many of my clothes were made in India I was amazed to find that 'Susan' 'Diane' etc all offered me something similar at 300 rupees - about£3.50 - whereas I paid £30!]  We're going to upset so many of our new friends when they work out that we're not going to buy up all their stock!!!

There is the most glorious white sand beach about three quarters of a mile from the hotel and it stretches for miles - certainly further than you can see. And there are about eight beach bars that have apparently been built in the week before our arrival from which we should - if the clouds ever disappear - be able to see some fantastic sunsets. But that's a pleasure still to be experienced.
It's warm, but not over sunny and it's quite humid. Very pleasant on balance.

And I have to say from what I've experienced so far that the Goan style of food is quite nice! They like meat in their curries (as opposed to Keralans who appear not to be too keen) and they like them hot! We're breaking in to the cuisine gently and so far, we're both still in good fettle!!!
Tomorrow, we're venturing further afield with a couple that we've met. The plan, I think, is to charter a taxi for the day (about £30!) and to head south. Report to follow...

Oh, and the wi-fi here is better than I get in Anglesey so any Skype calls to Jane or myself would be welcomed. We're about five or six hours ahead of the UK so don't call too late!!!

[Jane: Phil fails to mention the glorious sight of eagles soaring overhead in small groups - very spectacular particularly when sitting by the side of the River Sal]
