Revised the plans slightly and decided to head to Berwick and to do Holy Island later – partly because the tide was coming in and I felt I might be stranded on the island and, as those sad persons amongst you who watched "One Man and his Camper Van" will know, there's no overnight camping on the island.

Well, all the chores done, washing, cleaning etc.  Had to make an effort as I have a dinner date with my neice on Friday and didn't think she'd appreciate the "natural aroma"!

Did Berwick while I was here.  In my view an unremarkable town with a remarkable history.  The walls and ramparts are immaculate and paint a picture of the efforts the English went to to keep out the Scots but you have to ask that if it was to maintain possession of Berwick, why did we bother?!??!

Popped across to Holy Island before I left the area.  Wouldn't mind a little pad there - except for all the b*****y tourists - especially the ones in campervans clogging up the causeway!

Anyway, that's this corner of England done.  Off across country now to "do" Cumbria.

No need to take offence - you more than made up for it later... I concur with your view of Berwick, although the expression that popped in to my head after we'd done the walls and viewed the bridges and made our way in to the town itself was "s*** hole"!
