This entry is about dedications...

Some of the best things about travel are found not in the ancient sites or stunning landscape but in the people you meet along the way... and the kind and caring ones that help our on our many journeys are numerous...

The most important dedication goes to Brian Shaw... that Brian Shaw guy that lives in Salt Lake City, Utah... the hardcore biker and skier who traverses whatever mountain or canyon he can... if he's not heading to the local pool with his girls, helping a friend in need, shooting the shit with the mailman or eagerly watching his beautiful wife Dana prepare an early morning cup of coffee...

Why this dedication? Well... during this summer while we stayed with Brian and Dana and girls... we decided to pick up some mountain bikes so we could bring them to Turkey with us... Brian took the time to bring us around to many, many bike shops so we could find a good bike for a great deal... his unending knowledge on mountain bikes helped us make informed decisions that were well beyond what I could have pulled off on my own... His patience as well, was much appreciated... for I can be somewhat of a "cheap fucker" that wants to find quality for a dime... which can never really be had...  He also passed on one of his bikes to my son Carsten... an awesome bike that Carsten jumps on every day after school to cruise the campus... hopping over curbs, climbing up steep hills and running the straights all the way to the bottom... So..... A BIG HEARTY THANK YOU BRIAN...

The next dedication goes to Brent Hulme, the owner of the SLC Bicycle Company... for helping us find perfect bikes that fit us all... and giving us 4 professional shipping boxes so we could safely bring our treasures home to Turkey with us... He was not only helpful, but honest and kind... He runs an awesome bike shop... and if anyone out there is looking for a great bike for a great deal... bought through great service... look up the SLC Bicycle Company... here is the email:

The next dedication goes to the wonderful woman behind the counter at the Lufthansa check in at the SLC airport... for when I showed up with a pile of boxes, filled with bikes and a mound of duffle bags from our summer sojourn throughout the States... as she informed me that I was way over my allotment of check-ins... and that half were over weight... amounting to about $1200.00 in shipping costs... She just smiled wide, saying it was good I arrived early... and told me to start opening some of the bags so we could redistribute the weight... dropping the charge from 1200 to 500 bucks... and with a last smile she punched in a code... overriding the system to give me one free extra bag allotment... I happily paid the 250.00 USD... as we all thanked her profusely and headed off for a bite to eat before our long journey back home...

Once again... it is the people you meet along the way that often make the journeys memorable...
