After our whirlwind tour of the old haunts in the Twin Cities we headed up north to spend time with Deb's family... and with 8 siblings, all married with children and some with grandchildren it makes for what feels like visiting a small village.  I could go on and on about how marrying into my wife's family was overwhelming at first, comfortable after a few years and how it's now like putting on a favorite pair of slippers, comfortable and easy to be in...  Truly they are a very special group of people, with big hearts with a strong sense of familial attentiveness that sets them far above any of the stories of my friends in-laws...

Highlights included visiting with Deb's dad George and seeing the apartment that he recently moved to after he sold the family house to one of his son's, Glen... who has already redesigned it for his growing family...

Checking out Craig and Denises' newly built home, with the fine detailing and design elements that they so creatively possess... it is a beautiful home with a back portico that makes one feel like they are relaxing out the back of an Italian villa...

Comfortably crashing and relaxing at Lynn and Dave's house, located at the end of a long driveway on the edge of rolling fields with a picture perfect pond ringed by a small oak forest nestled in the back yard... Watching Ben and the boys crazily drive 4 wheelers and the Mule around the expansive yard...

Spending an afternoon with Mike and Sue at their "Secret Getaway" home perched on a hill deep in the woods, offering forest views of the lake below... we especially liked the gourmet lunch spread and time boating around the lake while getting close up views of loons and resident pelicans... catching up with always friendly Sara, her mellow husband John and their lively and cute children... ending up with a short docking at one of Deb's multitudinous cousins, to catch a chat and take a few jumps and dives off his dock...

My jogs through the country roads around Lynn and Dave's, having wild turkeys and whitetail deer intermittently cross my path while listening to old REM tunes on my shuffle...

I would like to end this entry by stating that all of these beautiful homes and their locations pale in comparison to the inner beauty that the families that fill them possess...  and if this sounds a bit melodramatic for some of you out there... well deal with it...  and maybe even try and find one of the Guggenberger clan that is still available and try your best to marry into this great family...
