Our three hour drive from Nairobi took nearly 5 due to traffic conditions leaving the airport.
We arrived at Serena Mountain Lodge around 6 pm exhausted and slightly jet lagged. The Lodge is fantastic, rustic but comfy, what I imagined a lodge in Kenya to be. We were greeted with a warm towel and a fruit drink. Hospitality is given freely. We are in room 39 on the third floor. Like all the rooms at the lodge our room looks out on to the watering hole. We are right next to the viewing area for the bar so I think it is a pretty good location. The first animal that we saw was a Genet Cat and soon there were water buck.
Though it was hard to pull ourselves away from the watering hole we knew we needed to have dinner. At the end of dinner someone came around asking about what animals at the watering hole we would like to be woken for. We opted out since we were so jet lagged. We still have tomorrow night.
When we got back to the room we spent a little time out on the balcony watching the animals. We found that the staff had placed a hot water bottle in our bed. The cold mountain air and the warmth of the hot water bottle lulled me right to sleep[
