We headed straight to the National Park. The Julian Alps(named after Julius Ceaser)climbed high into the sky next to the Italian border. Our kitchen window(we splurged and rented a apartment for two nights) gazed out onto their snow capped peaks. We stayed in a valley next to a lake surrounded by mountains, with small villages dotting the green valley floor. The first afternoon we rented bikes, which was lots of fun, but both of our bums were hurting after a few hours.I really liked it here. We actually had a whole day in one place without traveling. Of course we spent it riding our bikes in the morning, and trekking 10 miles that afternoon, but the scenery was breathtaking. Like most of my trip though, time flew by and before we knew it we were off on the train again. This overnight trip to Germany would prove to be one of our longest yet.
