A very nice birthday surprise by Mike, wound me up in Venice for my 21st birthday. Our hostel which was on the third floor of an old Venetian Town House was very nice, other then that there was one bathroom, but we made do and beat the girls to the bathroom each day. Venice is a one of a kind type of place. It consists of tons of little allies and water ways that can make you walk around in circles for hours which happened to us the first night. The next day we went to St. Marco's square which is at the center of Venice. We went up in the bell tower but failed to check the time so when we were up in the tower the bells started to ring. The view from the tower was unbelievable; you could see all of Venice from there. To get from island to island you have to use these boat bus or us the gondolas which are really expensive. We also went Doge Palace which was this grand building where the Venice government use to uses. Every room had paintings on the wall and even had a prison in the basement
The next day we headed to Lido island which is like the beach resort area for Venice. It was a really nice area but all the shops and hotels were closed for the season.
Then Saturday we head to the Venice Boat Show which had tons of yachts (don't you worry I am still picking the right boat for myself). They had some America's Cup racing sail boats, massive motor yacht, sail boats and even some speed boat.
We left on Sunday and would recommend Venice to anyone traveling near Italy. Also I have fallen in love with Gelato (Italian ice cream) and probably consumed about 20 over the course of 4 days. The next trip is to Austria with my Dad then to Prague and back to Italy for Rome and Sorrento.
Bellini's on the Plane 2
. Then we took a bus to the island of Murano were we saw the famous Venetian glass being blown and made by the locals. Every shop in Venice has this glass on sale. From the recommendation of Mrs. Mckay we headed to Harry's Bar which invented Bellini's (peach and champagne) but after receiving the bill realized that each drink was 15 euros per drink. (going to check prices before ordering from now on) That night we decided to take a free boat to Casino Divenezia which we had no idea what type of casino it was until we showed up. Upon entering we were given suit jackets to where and told to proceed up the grand staircase. It looked like Casino Royale casino with only a couple of tables but all of them were high stakes. I took a chance in black jacket but lost 10 euros when the dealer hit 21. That pretty much ended the night. The next day we headed to Lido island which is like the beach resort area for Venice.
