I got the boat back from goregeous Colonia yesterday, back to the hustle and bustle of mad BA. I met up with the amigos in the hostel and we decided it was a night for fun....when in Rome...we were fortunate enough to find out about a local house party last night which was on a roof of somebodyīs apartment.
In Buenos Aires people open up their houses for parties and then get the profit form the bar, there was a DJ and and plenty of entertainment including free shots of vodka - always a bonus. The Argentinean men chat everything thing up that moves so itīs a bit annoying...but theyīre very polite and when I explained I was married ;) yeah that sounds naieve but believe it or not they respect that and disappear. The worst thing is if they think you are rejecting them for no good reason....machismo and all that. Me and a few girls came home early at 6am, if we didnīt have to check out of our hostel we wouldnīt have bothered.....The lucky others rolled in about 8am. Here they get up late and go to bed late....today I am exhausted...
I moved into my homestay this morning... itīs quite a bit out of the city :( (
a word or warning to anybody thinking about learning spanish abroad,
itīs cheaper to look when you get to your destination and youīll have
more of a clue where they put you. Ask to be close to the city centre)
but itīs only a ten minute walk and then 15mins on the metro to get in
and to get to the school so itīs not such a big deal, and the area
seems nice - I could have done a lot worse.
The man who owns
the apartment Gustavo is a piano teacher and seems really lovely and
quiet (a bit of a snob towards Argentinean people and loves europeans -
heīs a bit of an artiste in that way), he loves his cats just like my
former piano teacher - it must be a piano teacher thing. He
took me for a walk around the area and speaks a little English but not very well which is great. I am totally out of my
depth.....so hopefully Iīll learn something!
And this afternoon (drum roll)....I am going to La Boca football stadium to see the Boca Juniors...itīs apparently the roughest but most fun game of football you can ever go to in Argentina. Gustavo was disgusted because heīs a River fan and also because he thinks Iīm going to get robbbed.....bring in on, itīll be something to write about....I only have a few pesos in my bag...the rest are in my bra (good tip ma mere). If it happens it happens and thereīs nothing you can do about it. Thereīs a good group of us going together so hopefully weīll be fine. It would be a shame to not see an Argentinean team play....
Itīs my first day of Spanish classes tomorrow and canīt wait to pick up a few words, itīs so frustrating not to be able to speak to different people....if you traverse the Latin American continent do yourself a favour and learn a few phrases before you come...
Hasta Luego!
