This was a crazy week at the site because we had an event with the Mayor and then a Senator came and had a volunteer day.  Still, got a lot done besides the prep for events.  On Tuesday I only had a half day because I had to get my Visa extended.  Worked out perfectly because our private Jeepney was going to a hardware store nearby.  The site actually moved, but we found it and then Mozell bought us Coke Floats which really hit the spot.  Came back to work and helped Mariana with septics.  I really enjoy doing Septic tanks because there are different steps to go towards a finished goal.  You have to do labor but a lot of thinking and designing.  Wednesday we went to Carmen to do some mudding.  The house was a real mess of mud and debris.  Our team removed most of it to prepare them to remove the roof and sanitize.  This family had received money to fix up and add a second floor from the red cross.  The sister-in-law of the owner watched over us and bought us a ton of Cobras.  They just kept coming as soon as we finished!  She also bought us bread which was super generous.  It broke my heart when we asked about throwing away debris and items in the closet.  She replied 'My sister is a widow, she doesn't want the memories.'

The rest of the week I did piling with Samie, Fern, and Huy. This means building walls with hollow bricks and masa (cement mix). It was hard to get masa fast enough so it was a slow relaxed pace.  Good pace after an intense first three weeks!  This was also great because I was able to get to know some of the locals a lot better.  On Saturday everyone seemed in slow motion.  I think everyone needed a nap!  The workers made cool necklaces out of wire which was neat.  I also tried some rendering which was not my forte!  Still got a lot of walls built this week!  The houses will soon be homes!
