Our new home
So here is the low down on the boat we are hitchhiking on from Tahiti to Fiji.
Her name is Melis and she is a Bavaria 42 Sloop. Bavaria is the name given to indicate where it was manufactured, Bavaria is somewhere in Germany. The 42 is the boats length in feet, thats 12.8 meters. The sloop means in only has one mast. She carries a main sail, a Genoa, a storm jib, a spinnaker and an asymmetrical spinnaker. She weighs in about 10 tonnes and can comfortably hold six people. Kat and I get our own double cabin with our own bathroom as we are the only crew on-board.

The captain is Arslan, an architect from Turkey, 57 years old and sailing around the world, solo! His English is good but not perfect and most amusingly he talks exactly like Borat, so far we have resisted the temptation to ask him for a high five but believe us he liiiikes a lot of things. Melis is only 20 months old, so it has all the cool gear you would expect, a fridge for beers, a freezer for ice for your whiskey, flat-screen TV, nice stereo and at the helm a multifunction navigation display with a colour display screen that has all the charts programmed in to co-ordinates you position with GPS and calculates wind and tide to help you sail faster!
Can't wait to get on the ocean!
