One collectivo ride later and we arrive in Huaraz. Huaraz has all the usual 3rd world capital characteristics - dustswept roads, mangy dogs, street urchins, entire families on mopeds, scary taxi drivers, and potholes.

Were here for three reasons; to visit a cafe that sells peanut butter and banana sandwiches,  visit Peruīs most famous, oldest major culture, the Chavinīs and swim in hot brown pools.

The Chavin culture is 3000 years old and they mastered the art of farming and food storage leaving them plenty of time to focus on the arts of painting and sculpture. They built underground tunnels which are a pretty amazing feat of engineering considering you can still walk in them 3000 years later. All the tunnels were designed with natural air conditioning which means no musty smell. .

We left Huaraz the next evening, on an 8 hour overnight bus to the capital city, Lima. The most entertaining part of the bus ride was taking a glass shower. About midnight were dozing away when suddenly the huge pane of glass next to us decided to go BANG! The pane was about the size of a door and decided to explode into the bus shattering into a million tiny cubes which covered our selves in glass. The next afternoon we were still finding glass in our shoes, like sand from the beach and picking glass out from our hair. Do you think the bus driver stopped, No, but his assistant popped up to draw the curtains across the gaping hole in the side of the bus! haha. We wandered over to other seats shaking glass everywhere and went back to sleep.
