Mount Gambier was just like a big friendly country town. There were two sights we wanted to see- the Blue Lake and a SInkhole Garden.
The Blue Lake is the towns water supply and was created from a volcano. It is the most magnificent shade of blue (I didn't edit the colours in the pictures I promise!!) and changes from aqua to dark blue throughout the year and seasons. You cannot swim in it and there is several viewing platforms around the lake.
The Upherstone sinkhole gardens is a cave formed through dissolution of the limestone of Mount Gambier, this sinkhole was created when the top of the chamber fell to the floor of the cave, creating the perfect environment for its "sunken garden". It was so amazing to stand and be able to look down into a tropical oasis of lush green garden.
Mount Gambier was suprisingly pretty and had great attractions, just very hot!! I think it nearly persuaded me to buy a fly net too! From here we drove to the Limestone Coast to see some great fishing and lobster catching...
