Had a fancy (not!) birthday dinner on the ferry ride from Vancouver Island to Vancouver. Our hotel for the next 5 nights was a budget Ramada right in the middle of the nightclub district  downtown. If you overlook a little doof-doof into the wee hours, it was a convenient walking distance to everything. As we expected, the weather wasn't the best, but that didn't stop us from exploring the city on foot - Granville Island markets, a dinky little Aquabus ferry back to Yaletown and a walk back to downtown, all in heavy rain had us heading back to the refuge of our hotel.
Next day was full of planned activities with Colleen and Matt who very generously spent their day being chauffeurs and tour guides. We saw Stanley Park and the native totems, went to Capilano suspension bridge, treetop walk and gorge walk and then on to Fort Langley the birthplace of BC and followed that with an exciting ice hockey game. Then on to a yummy dinner.  An action packed day, all achieved in the pouring rain. Thanks so much Colleen & Matt.
Sunday was another wet day wandering the city taking in the Chinatown and Gastown precincts.
Monday we bussed it up to Whistler-Blackcombe Mountains for the day. Easy to see why so many Aussies head this way for skiing. The snow was soft and loose not like the icy groomed tracks back home. The peak-to-peak gondola ride was awesome, light snowfall, no wind and clear sky made me antsy for a run down the slopes but sadly the body wasn't up to it.
Last day in Vancouver was shopping for Brenda, and a long, long walk around the harbors and foreshore for me before joining the Snowtrain bound for Jasper in the evening.
