The fast Clipper from Seattle to Victoria proved to be the best way to go, smooth sailing that was only interrupted by a pod of orcas (killer whales)
Just like a whale-watching cruise they told us the name of the pod and the dominant female leading them but unfortunately they were a bit photo-shy. Border-check then a short walk to the hotel to check-in and our first Aussie accent for a while behind the desk (3 Aussie girls working here), a walk around the city and sights and then to Budget for a car for two days. The car was a good choice given that the weather forecast was for 2 days of rain. Beer n dinner at the Sticky Wicket Pub (no cricket on tv but an intriguing bout of curling. Hmmmm.)
Rain as expected today (my birthday in Aus) but headed to Butchart Gardens anyway. Winter isn't the best for a garden display but fortunately they were set up for the 12 days of Xmas Light display. Best part was the Japanese garden but I'll leave that to Brenda's photos. On to Nanaimo to meet TJ, a home exchanger headed to the Gold Coast soon. He took us on a wet walking tour of the waterfront before a late lunch. Thanks T J, see you in Oz soon.
Last day on the island we drove over to Sooke on the west coast before an evening ferry to Vancouver.

The killer whales must of been amazing. We are experiencing the opposite of your weather here- bloody heatwaves and humidity. I have seen the Buchart Gardens in the summer and they are stunning. Where are you having Christmas? you might have white one which would be great. Busy at school but gradually slowing down and relaxing a little. Love the photos Brenda. Cheers, John (Ando)

Hi, was it Michael's birthday? happy birthday if it was. The photos are just great. It has been so hot here and it sounds like it is so cold there. Can't wait for the next blog.
Love Di
