"Make happy those who are near, and those who are far will come" - Chinese Proverb
Recently I had the opportunity to dine in the newly renovated Hong’s Garden in Poteau. Hong’s Garden features Chinese and Japanese cuisine served with a sophisticated presentation! Owners Ming and Jennifer Siu take pride in preparing and serving these combined dishes, while son Slim Siu participates in just about every facet of the restaurant. Slim is a friendly chap with a quick wit, and one of his many chores includes public relations
Along with the renovation, changes were made in the menu, as well. The Sius have added Japanese items to the menu and removed the buffet. I asked Slim the reason behind removing the buffet, since Chinese restaurant buffets seem so popular. Slim sheepishly admitted that the buffets were no longer profitable because of high food prices.
I found Hong’s prices to be very reasonable and their entrée’s were less than a buffet price. I tarted the evening off with an appetizer sampler and it gave me a little taste of everything from garlic shrimp, Edamame (steamed soybeans), Shumai (shrimp dumplings) and calamari rings. Jennifer then brought out Pan Fried Scallops, Sweet and Sour Chicken and my personal favorite the Salmon Teriyaki, along with fried rice, veggies and a delicious egg drop soup.
Having the restaurant closed for a period of time while doing the renovations, the Sius are eager to serve customers and share their new menu. Since posting the photo gallery on our facebook page fans have enthusiastically commented on how much they enjoy the dishes.
Hong’s Garden is open weekdays from 11 am to 12 midnight and Saturday and Sunday 12 noon to 12 midnight.
