Gay Beach

We went to White Beach because the guide book said it had lots of volleyball, good nightlife without all the GRO bars plus it had a really nice beach. Upon arrival we noticed that there were a lot of lady boys everywhere. After being hit on by men for the 10th time we realized we had gone to the gay beach. Whatever, we can have fun no matter where we are. We spent 5 days at this beach playing volleyball with lady boys, frisbee and partying hard. It turned out that this was a huge school holiday for students in the Phillipines. The beach was packed and every night the beach was loaded with a spring break like mentality. These students had one week in the sun to party and party they did. The energy of this kind of situation is contagious and we went with the flow. Our first night there we met an old guy from Texas that bought all of our drinks all night. On his way home he got semi-jumped in an alley and came back a little bloody to the bar. So to appease the locals...as he thought (which actually makes no sense since it was all students from Manilla) he laid a 100 dollar bill on the bar and bought the whole bar round after round. The next day we recovered and went to a cock fight. There were about 10 fights in all. They tie double bladed spurs to the rooster's leg before they fight and wipe it with alcohol to ensure that the blade has not been dipped in poison. Bets are placed a in stock market like manner at the beginning of the fight. The owners of the rooster hold them close to each other so that each rooster gets to peck the other one before the fight to ensure that they will be properly pissed off before they are released to battle on their own. The winner is the last rooster standing. The owner not only wins money but he gets the loser's body for dinner that night (as you can see in the pictures). The winning rooster then gets sewn up by the 'so called' doctor so that he can fight again in a month or 2. The razors that they use cut really severely. I saw a fight where a rooster died in 2 slashes but most fights last way longer and get really bloody. Dave placed a bet on a fight and doubled his money (dumb luck). The rest of the time on this beach was spent playing volleyball with the lady boys who are super good. They play every damn day and are no joke. They will spike the ball as hard as any pro guy and thrown in a super gay shriek to boot. Another cool thing that we did which does not seem to fit in with the rest of the above story is spend a couple of hours at a camp for sexually abused boys. We met the camp leader in one of the bars and she invited us over the next day for dinner to meet the kids. It was a special week for the boys and they were having games and camp fires on the beach. he camp leader told us that we had to come up with some games for the boys. I taught them the dizzy bat relay and Dave showed them a water game. It was a good time and the boys all had a lot of fun. Later that night we all roasted bread on a stick over the fire. This was an old Danish way of cooking bread that another camp counselor had introduced to the group. White Beach was a really good time!
