From the very beginning the tour company (Wisata Lombok) made their incompetency obvious. All of us on the boat had been told different things about what we'd get on the tour & how many people there would be, but pretty much none of it was delivered. Most of our group were European and kept to themselves, but were friendly. The coolest ones on the boat were a Dutch couple and we've found out that Dutch people are really great to meet on the road. As we sailed the waves were so massive it felt like the boat would flip and some people thought they would be sick. The 'blankets' we were promised actually turned out to be sarongs which made for really cold night. Our ice for beer melted after the first night and we'd specifically asked if the beer would be cold - we had to pay extra for those too. Once we finally got to a place we could get ice, the guide asked us all for more money. Breakfast on our first day was 2 pieces of toast. We were promised snorkelling gear, but when they brought it out - all the gear was broken. On the 2nd day my stomach started to cramp up and I had a bug for the rest of the time. Luckily though our squatty toilet dropped straight out into the ocean....

We reached Komodo Island on the 3rd day - the highlight of the trip.

We were taken through some pretty scenery to see huge Komodo Dragons. We were all disgusted when they noisily sprayed #2s out of their arses with a fury unlike any other I have ever seen. In case you don't know, these huge lizards wait for their prey (often sheep, deer, buffalo or horses) to fall asleep or be motionless and then they bite them. The bacteria living in their mouths will cause a deadly infection in the animal which will die shortly after. All the dragon has to do is bite and wait. Speaking of dying - Ben stepped on a cobra. Yes our group was walking on a trail and the snake got stuck between his foot and shoe. He was shaking his shoe trying to get it out and when it came loose the poor thing was so stunned he gave us all a scare by slithering between us and then stopping in the middle of our group. He could have killed Ben if he had bitten him.

On our 3rd night we pulled up to a beach and it took the crew 5 attempts to park the boat. A fire was built on this beach and about 6 of us waded through the water and went over. A French guy had his laptop and some speakers with him so we had music and warm beer. The rest of the passengers stayed on the boat and watched us dance around and over the fire. We had fun - they were boring.

One night the water was full of glowing plankton. As we motored throught the ocean we left a trail of bright green behind and around us - it was really beautiful.

On the 4th afternoon we pulled up to Flores. The tour had supposed to be 4 nights, but we were told that if we stayed on boat we could sleep, but we wouldn't be given dinner or breakfast. We did have a fun time, but everything was so infuriating. All we were paying for was transport. There was no adventure about it. The worst thing was meeting people who'd sailed with the other company and had had a fantastic time with working equipment, cold beer and even showers on board.
