Getting to this Island proved to be quite difficult since I didnt have a guide book for Malysia and had zero information on it. All I knew that it had beaches and cheap beer. So after 12 hours of bus, taxi, ferry and scooter travel I arrived. I was thinking that it was just a little island with not a whole lot going on. So when I arrived and saw that the Island was simply massive and that the only way to get places was by taking a expenisve ass taxis, I thought I had made a costly mistake. Figuring that I could just rent a scooter for 3 days rather than pay a taxi seemed to be the best option. I asked the scooter rental people where the absolute cheapest place was, and was shortly on my way. It took me 1 hour to go 25 kilometers because I kept getting lost. I had a map of the island but the funny thing about these developing countries is that the free maps they give out are not always that accurate. Turns out this place is great. The beach is big, the food is cheap and the beer is even cheaper. It's a duty free island so that's how things get to be so inexpensive. Staying in dorms allows me to meet so many more people. My guest house was a quaint little place across the road from the beach. All the travlers staying here would do their own thing during the day, and at night we would all meet up for dinner and drinks. The place has 3 monkeys as pets and the youngest one was not tied up and raised hell every waking moment he could. He would steal our beers, drag the cats around by their tails, go through our backpacks and use my body as a jungle gym. The fist day I got there 2 monkey were chasing each other around my body when one fell off and grabbed for my butt. Basically he pulled down the back of my pants and everybody watching got to see my perfectly white ass! Great way to meet people. I never got a picture of it but these monkeys could hang soley on my goatee.

With my moped I checked out the Islands many waterfalls which were actually quite nice, even though it makes for boring pictures. There are wild monkeys everywhere on the side of the road. Once, I stopped by a big group of them to check them out. After about 2 minutes the big male decided he did not like me being there and decided to bare his fangs and charged me. I saw it coming at the last moment and hit the gas so hard on my scooter that I pulled a wheely and almost crashed!

My last night we had a fire and BBQ right on the beach. Most of the people there could play the guitar really well. Too bad there was no Piano ( I could have wowed the crowd by playing some chopsticks). This set a really nice mood. Beach, fire, music, cold beer, good conversaton....It's moments like these that makes travel so unbelievably rewarding.
