Party Island

We left for the port before 6am and had to wait a while for the ferry. In this time we spoke to a man about doing a 4 day 4 night tour to Komodo Island on a boat. We'd been looking into it and the only other company doing it charged a fortune. We booked our tickets for a few days time. Around 9am the huge, dirty ferry left Bali. There were lots of locals and tourists going to the Islands and I was disturbed to note the local men spitting (yes with saliva) on the floor of the ferry. I quickly picked my bag up and put it on the seat after seeing that. We went to Lombok which is the Island next to Bali (where the terrorists based themselves before the latest bombings) and after a few hours in a van were taken to another restaurant, refused to buy anything the locals were peddling and then took a much smaller boat to Gilli Trawagan.
It is hailed as the party Island. In fact there was a party that night. Just hours after getting there and getting a really nice room we took a nap so we could last all night long. There were Local and International DJs and the party never got out of hand. On our way home we watched an old lady bathing in the dark (they wear sarongs when they bathe) while the call to prayer eerily drifted over the Island. We sat by the water and watched the sun start to come up before bed.
We spent most of our days on the beach, eating in little booths by the beach or restaurants that had tables built in individual coves above the kitchen and renting out little boxes on the beach that were filled with big cushions to watch DVDs in. It was slow season, but the Island is fully equipped to handle huge amounts of tourists. There are loads of restaurants and bars and of course party favours. The Mafia run the Island and there's no cops in sight as long as peace and order prevail everyone is happy.
