Catching up With Friends

It was still storming when we woke up and braved the rain to get to the pier. Of course my bag got wet. Once on the tumultuous boat ride we listened as a young boy puked in the seat behind me. Luckily he had the foresight to puke in the bag provided which is rare in those parts. We've noted that the younger Asians have problems on windy roads and bumpy planes/boats and often end up puking. The really curious part is that they always puke all over themselves instead of getting up to go to a toilet or leaning out the window. We took a local bus to the border town of Johra Bahru and then on to another local bus that took us through the border - waiting for all the passengers after each immigration stop. Now we were in Singapore. We were there purely to visit our friends, Wee Lee & Meixiu, who we'd met whilst working in Yellowstone. Wee Lee kindly let us stay with her and we felt like we were living in luxury with her aircon, hot shower, TV & laptop. A lot of people in Singapore live in huge buildings all built up next to each other and all looking the same. At night it looks quite beautiful, but I am sure I'd get lost easily trying to find my house...
We left the girls in charge of ordering food for us the whole time we were there and we got to try all sorts of amazing food - even stingray. We also tried sugar cane juice which is really green and sweet. The next day for lunch we went to a hawker centre that Ben and I had been to last time we were in Singapore without a clue. This time we were with the girls who knew what to get. We ate a new version of sticky rice and had shaved ice with sweet sauces as well as corn & peanuts. Last time we were here we saw a lot, so this time we concentrated on the food!! The food is great in Singapore and we finally had people with us who could answer all of our quesions about things we saw or ate. I think we've needed a buide this whole time we've been in Asia.
