Where I stayed
The guy driving the bus from Monteverde to Playa Hermosa was great and doubled as a nature guide, pointing out birds and howler monkeys and stopping at a bridge to show us the massive crocs that were below in the water. As our driver spoke very little English we could also work on our Spanish, which is coming along just nicely, muchos gracias.
The howler monkeys were a welcome surprise and the first monkeys of our trip. As shown on the photos, the otherwise black male howler monkeys have a very impressive pair of white testicles. This, our guide / driver explained helps to keep the goods cool, something I will definitely use in future lessons on absorbance / reflection of light
Our room at Playa Hermosa is a windowless loft complete with hammock and view of the surf. As indicated by the title of this entry, coming down from the hills of Monteverde, the temperature steadily increased and by the time we got to our destination, taking our luggage to the top of our house left us sweating like a bunch of hairy bush-pigs, to use an Australian colloquialism.
After lunch the "manager" took over from the very capable guy that had looked after us so far. He was rather unsteady on his legs, had bloodshot eyes and took a while to finish his sentences. To say he took a rather over-relaxed approach to his job is an understatement, but apart from this guy and his medicinal tobacco, Playa Hermosa proved to be a nice little place, complete with scarlet macaws, iguanas around our room and a very impressive surf.
Tomorrow to Hacienda Baru, for more nature and mozzie bites.
