Good to meet up with Anniek at Union Square, where we had lunch (lucky girl to be living in this city).
Overall we had a really good time here the only part of NY that was pretty much like I remembered was Canal St (not a positive).
Highlights for me were Washington Square / Greenwich Village, the two games at MSG (basketball and hockey), Central Park and just wandering about and observing New Yorkers.
The Basketball and Hockey was great, with quite different crowds
The weather has been OK most of the time, just today was bloody awful. Windy with temps just above freezing. The 9/11 memorial visit was a bit of a chore and we made it to StarBucks just in time. Fulton Fish Market was on my wish list but Sandy took care of this part of Manhattan resulting in closure of everything around the market.
Also, talking about observing New Yorkers, they're nowhere as big as I remembered, but quite skinny / European looking, they must all work out like crazy as there's loads to eat and drink everywhere.
More Later, Jan
Freezing is an understatement - it was bad enough at the ice-hockey but today was evil (well had we come appropriately prepared I'm sure it would have been fine). The 9/11 Memorial was made extra cold as the water from the 2 pools where the towers were was blowing everywhere
I think I have found a new spectator sport - the basketball was good but the crowd seemed quite quiet - the hockey on the other hand..... it was like sharing the (freezing) stadium with 16,000 members of the AFL Cheer Squads (insert a team of your own choice) only with better teeth! Great fun.
Up at 2:15am tomorrow for an early ride to JFK and a flight to San Jose, where I hope the weather is warmer. Sarah
