Next week we're heading off on a bit of a trip. Jan and I both have 'long service leave' and with the boys in Grade 6 (primary) and Year 8 (secondary) now's the time to go.

The main reason for writing this blog is to enable family, friends, colleagues and anyone else who comes across this (I was too stingy to pay for a private blog) to see where we are and what we're doing without necessarily involving Facebook. How often we update this will depend on wifi access and laziness. The idea is that we'll all have a go at some stage.

So the details: we leave Melbourne next week heading for New York. At the time of booking, it seemed like a great idea, 9 days out and I'm not so sure - not only is it pretty much like flying to Europe time-wise, it's freezing there right now! From New York we go on to Costa Rica, Ecuador, Cuba, Mexico, LA, Hawai'i and then home in late June.

The four of us (Jan, Sarah, Willem & Jack) will be travelling in very close confines for nearly 3 months without a break - that'll be an interesting experience itself. We'll all miss the dogs but we do have a lovely house sitter to look after them whilst we're away in case you were wondering.

Right that's it until next week.

For friends outside Australia:
- Long Service Leave is self explanatory - basically extra paid leave when you've worked for one organisation for a long time, it does seem to be peculiar to Australia and New Zealand but I'm not complaining.
- As for the issue of taking kids out of school during term time experienced in the UK and Netherlands - no problem here (yet at least).

Well if you keep up that amount of interaction it is going to be very interesting for those of us who aren't currently having any adventures. I can't believe it has come round so quickly.

Not fair, I've worked for M&S for 19 years and I get a week extra! Good to see you've still got your energy and organisational skills. I'm sure you'll have a fab trip, tho the familiy dynamics could be a bit of an opportunity... Be interesting to follow your travels. Have a great time!
