So much for being all cleared up when I last wrote. About three hours later Patrickīs hives returned with a vengeance and covered almost his entire body. We ended up staying holed up in the hotel in La Quiaca (except for another visit to the hospital for another injection) for four days before finally making the decision to turn back, away from Bolivia and its lack of hygiene standards. The hives were not completely gone until the sixth day, we saw a dermatologist here in Salta and she assured us it was just a severe allergic reaction, most likely to something he ate, we still think it was something in the pizza. We are continuing with the medication and he is all clear today.

As a result, our route has changed (again) and we are now heading east towards Brazil, staying in closer proximity to decent medical care for the next wee while, just in case. This is our third time in Salta, nice city but I donīt think I would have chosen to be here three times! But health takes priority over all else, especially Patrick's. We have enjoyed the last few days here, chose a different hostel this time and it's like a big happy family. There was a big bbq last night, very late, a lot of imbibing, sore head today. Patrick had fun at the park today, there were four huge trampolines with harnesses connected to big poles so you can jump really high without fear, not sure what it is called. There were kids galore. It is a long weekend so they should still be there tomorrow for me to give it a go when my head will be a bit clearer.

Depart for Resistencia tomorrow, then on to Iguazu Falls, hope to be on Ihla do Mel, an island in Brasil, for a week over Christmas, Rio de Janeiro for New Yearīs Eve baby .... but knowing us, that could change in a heartbeat.

The Tasmanian Contingent
Hey Guys -was catching up on your travels (when I really should have been doing some work!) And thought that it worth commenting on the hives - had a phone call from a friend last night (she studies whales in Western Australia what a cool job) and she recently had an attack of hives - came on slow at the start but after about 12 hours she was covered and unwell - passed out in the bathroom (in part due to the phenergen) broke a rib and rushed to hopsital. Any how the prognosis was not food but a reaction to a gastro viral thing - not that she had any symptoms just the hives. Not that I am trying to worry you but thought it was worth mentioning that it might not be food - which is good!

Sounds fantastic and am very envious. All is well here Saul and Ned have adpoted on the chickens as their surrogate pet - she goes on bikes, swings, boats, dressed up and still amazingly lays eggs - and seems to tolerate the whole thing in exchange for food. Michael is very busy driving boats - they have now set up the eco boat tours on the Tasman Peninsula and he is operations manager and me still playing climate change policy in local government getting a bit of traction these days! Geraldine & Keith, Steve & Marli & kids and other assorted family are coming for a Tassie Christmas should be fun - will pass on your travel adventures to them. Much love and safe travels to the three of you - Katrina, Michael, Saul and Ned
