Almost a hiccup at the edge of Argentina

Here we are at the very edge of Argentina, fully acclimatised to the 3800m altitude, all set and ready to cross into Bolivia and further explore the Altiplano .... and what do you know, Patrick breaks out in hives. We think it was the pizza he ate yesterday but I guess we´ll never know for sure. They started last night and progressively spread over his entire body, until this afternoon we realised they weren´t going away on their own, and certainly not before we wanted to head into the back of beyond. A quick trip to the hospital (for some reason I was reluctant, not sure what we would find there, but thankfully Blair was persistent), an adrenaline shot in the butt, and he´s right as rain. He and Blair are in the playground across the street right now, he´s almost 100%. For a few hours I was thinking we would have to wait here another four days and get the Saturday train, but hopefully he´ll get the ok at our 7am (!) appointment tomorrow and we´re back on schedule.
Oh, nice town by the way, not that I´ve seen much other than Patrick´s ever-reddening skin. Been outside the hotel room for all of a total of three hours I think. But have started to see signs we are really in the Andes, women with full knee-length skirts, bowler hats, long plaits and the like .... can´t wait to see more.
Thinking of everyone, wherever you all are. Had a few tears today, such a sap.

Loving the travelogue
Hello Family,
I absolutely love your travel blogs Amanda - makes me almost feel like I am there with you all.
Such a shame that Patrick got hives - but sounds like he is on the road to recovery. Is he allergic to some foodstuffs? What exactly was on that pizza?
Looking forward to reading your next update.
Lots of love
