Nice to Genoa (Genova in Italian), yet another spectular train journey from the French Cote D'azur to the Italian Riviera. The train would pass through tunnels cutting through the hills and then you'd leave the tunnel, look out the window and see a beautiful bay with the mediterrenean lapping at its shores.

My first impressions of Genoa were that I wouldnt be staying here long. But once I'd got on the bus, and began the climb up the hill to my hostel I was already impressed. Genoa is built on the side of a range of hills/mountains which has resulted in the city being long and narrow - streching along the coast, and the city quickly rises in height as you move inland.

Its really strange to be walking along a road and be looking at the roofs of aparment buildings a few metres away a little down the hill (that's how steep it is!)

Genoa is another city which is full of grand buildings, residues of its great trading past. The old city is apparently the largest in europe and I had a great day exploring the city.

In my first day and a half in Italy, id already had pizza, genovese pesto pasta, gelato (ice cream, not gelati) and cinotto!

Id would have liked to spend a little longer in Genoa, and would definitly return
