Cold here, high humidity. Not loving the weather so far. Rick misrepresented weather too. Again, never trust a missionary. He said the weather was just like WA. NOT. The mirror fogs up even if the shower isn't on.
I was trying to grow my hair out, but got bored and cut it last night with nail scissors because the humidity is so bad that it was awful. So, it is shorter in back now. I didn't do so bad considering I did it myself, with nail scissors, a mirror, and a single light bulb hanging from the ceiling in the bathroom! Who needs a $50 haircut? Probably me when I get back! Or sooner.
Waiting on the kitchen "boy" named Miguel to cook us lunch. $5 a plate. Family style. This place rocks! Too far away to go anywhere. No McDonalds in the hood.
I hear the kids singing downstairs. Lunch is served. A typical Peruvian meal. Beef strips atop tomatoes, onions, potatoes, with rice. Very good. Kids were practicing for their afternoon at the capital.
They have all just left for their visit with the government officials. I'm at the hotel, as the visit was pre-arranged with official passes and so forth. I didn't get my pass since I signed on late. I'll join them later. They looked great in their costumes, and performed for the couple of other guests in the hotel, and staff.
I'm staying in, watching more Spanish language TV, and waiting for the "nothing more to do in Lima" tomorrow. If we do anything, it ends up costing me money. I'm paying for meals here as well, so every time we leave the hotel, it gets more expensive. Haven't been feeling so good today anyway. Could have something to do with what I ate...or didn't eat. Had one meals today. The one Miguel made in the kitchen in Hotel Nirvana. Hmmm...Hoping my stomach settles tomorrow.
Ed called this evening. Sure was great to hear a familiar voice. Hoping to Facetime with Nick and Martha again tonight. I even get to SEE their faces! And, Nick puts their dogs on. Love it. Really. Even dogs that are familiar are nice to see.
It seems like a week since I left home. Wow! So many miles and hours between when I left and now. So many smells. So much has happened. Tomorrow, another city and another adventure.
Flight is late in the afternoon, so we will arrive in Arequipa in the afternoon. Apparently, the kids are going to be big celebrities in Arequipa. It is the second largest city in Peru, and this has been a very big deal there. Supposed to be news crews, and on Wednesday, they have interviews, etc. Should be interesting.
Thankfully, I have my "hotel" there. The $40 a night suite. We will see what that is like. Hopefully, it is at least a 1 Star, and maybe even 2 Stars. If not, I'll be on the hunt for non-missionary accommodations!
Until then, signing off from "Hotel Nirvana" in Lima.
