We forgot there was a bank holiday around Australia Day and alomost didn't get any accomodation anywhere. Then we stumbled upon Hawkes Nest and Tea Gardens and large enough campsite right on the beach. In fact it was on 2 beaches. One with Hugenormous waves and the other with nice clear water and very little waves. Being the Irish idiots we are we hit the surf with nothing but our enthusiasm and after about an hour of being pounded by waves and winded by them breaking on us we decided to go get some lunch.
The next day was Australia Day... the Aussie Independance day and 3 couples pulled in that afternoon and set up beside our tent. It was clear we were in for a good night as the lads were half pissed by 3 in the afternoon and the Girls were doing beer bongs to catch up. Beer bongs are basically a large funnel and pipe which you gulp down a full bottle of beer out of as quick as you can. Conor was the fastest after he took up the challenge and immediately gained status as a true Irish man in the gang. We spent the evening drinking and eating and then went for another swim before the lads went shark fishing. Conor was sure they would catch one and was hoping to get a photo of himself headbutting it. But they caught nothing.
Next day we hung out aruond Nelsons Bay and headed back to the beach in the evening for some more punishment by the surf. No better way to cure a hangover and the weather was absolutley scorching fot the last couple of days so a swim in the evening is almost mandatory at this stage.
