Ok so the title of this is "Beach Bums" and strangely enough it turned out to be the perfect title for this blog without even knowing what Florianopolis was gonna be like. For two reasons mainly. The first being the amount of good sleep and lazing about we did on beaches and farting around looking at shops and stuff. The second being the size of Brazilian womens bums. Itīs worth mentioning at this moment that it wasnīt just Conor that noticed this as Lou and Iīm sure other girls have noticed this too. You could place some carefully folded clothes on their bums without a worry of them falling on the sand.

Anyhow on to Floripa itself. Weīd spent the gutts of 6 weeks in spanish speaking countries up to this and after Conor had just got the hang of it we both ended up using sign language again. Didnīt matter though as every single Brazilian person we met were so patient and enormously helpful. So much so that we had the manager of a Texaco garage calling in all his friends to help us find a bus station. You wouldnīt get that sort of service down the local esso at home.

The city itself was lovely and modern and full of lots of designer shops and highrise hotels. But the city isnīt really the highlight. We stayed on the island of Santa Catarinha about 20 mins from the city by car. South of the island to be exact in a sleepy little fishing town on Praia da Armacao. Only sleepy until the night before we left as it was the first weekend of the high season and the place began to pack up.

The entire island is beautiful. Lush green hills rolling down into the atlantic (much warmer than Ireland) and two big lakes in the centre of the island. The beaches were big -about 50km of beach in total - with soft sand and plenty of bars and restaraunts. And thatīs basically it. We just lazed, swam, saw some sights, ate and Conor got scorched on the last day. Attack of the tomoto. 4 days of a break well worth taking before we head south again to the cold nights and mountains. Beard growing time. Thankfully Lou canīt grow one so sheīll have to suffer the cold in her designer Peruvian mountain hat again.

On to Porto Allegre.
