Carla and husband, John, have a lovely home on a generous piece of land in the idyllic countryside of Maine. Carla had invited her sister, Margie, to join us. We women explored the contents of a box my brother John had left with her a few years ago which contained information about the Smith sisters, their connection to Maryville College, and photographs of many of Belle Smith’s paintings. I think John came about these family items because our father was the executor of Miss Elizabeth’s estate
Carla, John and Margie provided a delicious lunch of gazpacho, crab and potato salads and a delicious blueberry cake under the trees in the backyard. We had such a wonderful visit with this family and it was difficult to tear ourselves away!
When we did, we headed to Boston and arrived back at Peggy and Sidney Maxwell’s a little after 6 and enjoyed a most pleasant evening with them. As usual, we had a sumptuous dinner of pork loin, sweet corn on the cob, chard soup, sweet potatoes, etc. prepared by the Sidney/Margaret Maxwell team. We've been served some outstanding meals on this trip, but none can equal the joy of being with old friends and making new ones!! What a wonderful privilege this has been for us septuagenarians.
