Day 22: Monday, August 24, 2009

Bye, Bye Billie, We're not too sad to see you go!!!  Well, it rained hard and the wind shook our windows off and on all night. In spite of it we slept well and by morning the rain had stopped and by 10 am the sun was out and there was a gentle breeze.  So Bill was very kind to us AND to Donald's boat.  What more could we ask?

Seashell, however, didn’t think Bill such a nice man.  I don’t think I’ve told you about Seashell.  Chelsea would do a better job of telling you about Seashell, but unfortunately, she’s not around to do that.  Chelsea was our pet, our Shih Tzu, who was given two years (maybe) to live when she was 11.  She fooled everyone, though, and died last year after her 16th birthday.  One of our front desk people at Manor House felt sorry for her when the vet said she didn’t have long to live and brought her a teddy bear one day.  She’s an unusual little bear with thin but bright pink hair, a brown hairy tummy and a big ugly nose.  Chelsea seemed pretty indifferent to her, but as she grew older we would find her sleeping next to Seashell.  After Chelsea died, Tom occasionally put Seashell in bed with us to sleep so we wouldn’t miss Chelsea so much.  I wasn’t too keen on this since I wasn’t really that fond of Seashell.

After we got the car packed to leave on this trip and started out of the garage, who should be sitting on the console between Tom and me?  It was Seashell.  She keeps appearing on our bed, in the car, at the dining room table, etc.  Since she’s become our constant companion, I thought you should know about her.  Even the Newfoundlanders love her, although she’s pretty ugly to look at.  This morning Tom found Seashell face down on the floor.  One of Bill’s strong gusts of wind had evidently knocked her down during the night.

Donald paid us a visit today and entertained us for a few hours.  (Well maybe not quite.)  He's
a fun guy, full of life, and we enjoy being with him!
