Pictures from One Year
Here are some pictures that measure the year.
What a difference a year makes.
I suppose you could say I've spent this year gardening and saying goodbye to Gordon, Kathy's brother. When Kathleen was in Prague with terminally-ill Gordon, I made gardens for her for when she came back.
The point was to have a place to remember Gordon. I made a little tombstone out of a bottle and my favorite marbles. I placed it and three birdfeeders near the lake on a steep trail. Then I fed the ducks and geese down by the lake as a new flock for Gordon.
It was too far to really take care of everything there
I made a memorial garden with birdfeeders and plants. Then we got our first complaint letter. They didn't like all the birdseed going into the landscaping.
So I moved everything closer to us. That brought us our second letter. They didn't like poop on the patio. So now the ducks and I have become very surreptitious. We sneak around. I get up before the sun to put birdseed in different places.
I like the optimism of the ducks as they hopefully waddle to our hideout. They never seem sad.
The office people told me that I don't have to worry, the person who complained is moving. So I can put the bird feeders out in the winter when he or she is gone.
Some of the leaves are changing already. We don't know if that means there will be an early winter. I will miss my garden, but I will enjoy the birds. And the ducks, and the squirrels, and the chipmunks, and the geese, and the skunk.
