What Have We Been Up To?

We rented a small two bedroom apartment in the Sri Nagar neighbourhood and have "moved in" to Indian life.
In April we recorded our friend, Sasha's first CD; Awakening. This CD is a beautiful collection of Indian devotional music sung in Sanskrit and Hindi. It took only two days for us to record and mix this CD at Aravind Studios, thanks to the wonderfully professional and knowledgeable staff there. Various instruments are included on the CD; sitar, tabla, santoor and keyboards. After the CD was recorded we spent the next few weeks taking photos for the CD inlay, having them desgined and copied
Because the first CD went so well, we decided to stay on and record a second CD one in May! For this one, we hired a composer who wrote incredible music to go with lyrics Greg has revised from his poetry. For three weeks Greg, Sasha and Sangeeth (our composer) worked to put together the ten songs for "Bittersweet". The recording was scheduled for 3 days (28 hours) but ended up taking 6 days (82 hours) because Sangeeth's creativity was beyond what any of us ever expected! This CD includes; sitar, santoor, tabla, sarangi, guitar, bass guitar, percussions, keyboards and even an incredible male back up voice on three of the songs! We are absolutely thrilled with the sound of all of the songs-it's a beautiful mix of East and West!
In between studio time we worked to get the photographs for the next inlay. We chose a market scene and this of course was quite a work-out in India! Everyone wants to be included in the photo or to be right there watching while it happened. Two photo shoots and over two hundred photos later, we got what we wanted. Now the work is in the hands of our capable graphic designer, Shuba.
The final mix of the second CD was ready within an hour of Sasha's departure back to Canada last Saturday! The first CD was completely packaged and ready for her to take with her just 5 hours before her departure!! it was close... but we did it!
And now? Greg and I are still here in Bangalore waiting to hear about distribution in India. It seems crazy not to take advantage of this HUGE market (1 billion!)... Stay tuned on where you can get your copy of these great new CDs!!! Hx
