Cusco to Yaurie

It was sad to be leaving Cusco but exciting to be going somewhere new. The road out from Cusco to Sicuani is 138 km of good bitumen, winding up through the hills through small towns and along the river Santa Rosa. Once we hit Sicuani we headed South onto dirt roads and seemingly heading straight up into the hills and around the top of the beautiful lake Langui Layo where we stopped for a great picnic lunch. After this high point we started to roll over hills and through valleys of varying roads from good bitumen to potholed gravel to eventually arrive at the town of Yaurie. This working town is a taste of the real Peru, tourists just do not come here and the townspeople notice that you are not local but take no notice anyway. It's a nice feeling to be truly off the beaten track. We wandered the local market and marveled at the Alpacas being sold on the street and then in the evening after a hearty meal in a local restaurant wandered the streets in amazement at the amount of people out and about.
