Yes I'm still alive. sorry I haven't written for ages - no internet access....and some naughty faeries! So "The Randy Leprechaun" is the name of the hostel I am staying in at the Dingle Peninsula on the SW coast of Ireland tonight. Sounds like there'll be some mischief doesn't it!
Ireland has been good to me so far - good weather, good food, friendly people, great stories and places to see. I am have also learnt a lot about the history of this country (well, 2 countries really - Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland) - sad, sad stuff most of it. Here's a quick run-down of what I've seen so far (or what I can remember while I'm sitting here at least...)
Day 1 - Dublin to (London)Derry --> Slane Castle, Monasterboice (cathedral), beautiful countryside, walking tour of Londonderry and city walls
Day 2 - Derry to Belfast via the northern coast. Giant's Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge - absolutely beautiful stuff.
Day 3 - Belfast to Derry (again). Black Taxi tour of Belfast to tell us some history and show us around some of the murals. Drive to Derry boring, but pretty scenery. Dinner in, but then out to the pub for traditional irish music and a pint of Guiness!
Day 4 - Derry via Donegal to Cong. Seaweed bath in Strandhill (great for the skin and hair...apparently!)
Day 5 - Cong to Galway. Climbed Crough Patrick - holy mountain (772m elevation). Will get back to you. Great night in Galway - very lively town and met up with some of the guys who would be joining us on tour the next day and our new driver.
Day 6 - Galway to Kilarney. Lovely scenery. The Burren. Cliffs of Moher. Ferry across River Shannon.
Day 7 - Ring of Kerry - just beautiful. Lots of stone forts and castles. Went to Riverdance in the evening!
Day 8 - Horse an cart through Kilarney National Park in the morning. Beautiful stuff. Drive to Dingle Peninsula and this afternoon taking the Sley Drive around the head of the peninsula.
I'm running out of time, so hope that's got you up to date. I'll upload some photos when i get back to Dublin to show you a taste of what I've been seeing.
Missing you all.
