Reading is sexy, according to Rory Gilmore! And I agree.

One of my favorite pastimes is reading. I love to read all kinds of things, magazines, newspapers, books, journals... the list goes on and on! For some this might be considered nerdy behavior... and I embrace that too! But for my job at Ddeser, The Network for Sexual and Reproductive Rights in Mexico, my love of reading has come in handy. Every morning I wake up, shower, eat breakfast, and hop on the bus for work. I arrive at 9 AM and start my work day by collecting the newspapers waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs. I head up to the office and start reading! I look for any articles relating to sex, sexuality, gender inequality, Sexually Transmitted Infections, maternal health, abortion, violence against women and the family, and any other subject which would impact the work of Ddeser. I cut out the articles, paste them on a recycled sheet of paper, place them in a plastic sleeve and hand them over to my boss Andrea. She writes an article once a week for a local newspaper and uses the information I collect for her own articles.

I love reading but normally I do it in English. Reading several newspapers in Spanish every morning is a bit stressful. I have to slow my eyes down and use my dictionary or GoogleTranslate quite a bit. But, after two weeks of work it has become one of my favorite parts of the day. I get to drink my instant coffee and catch up on what is going on in the world.

More to come soon about a day in my life as a YAGM volunteer.

In peace and love,

Hello friends!
There has been some confusion about the photographs. If you click on them a larger caption with a detailed explanation should appear. I don't want you to be confused by the pics but I am unable to put a longer titled because of a letter restriction. I hope this helps! Keep the questions (technical or otherwise) coming.

Are there senoritas y senors in the binders?

We focus on violence against women, so that would be mujers, senoras, senoritas, and so on. I see you have been working on your Spanish?
