Support through friendship

As well as visiting with friends and family, these last few weeks I have gone to several doctors appointments
. I have gone to the eye doctor for new glasses, the chiropractor for an adjustment, the dentist for a teeth cleaning, and the clinic for a physical. I have begun to see my medical providers as a support system as well. As I visit with these different people whose job it is to keep me healthy I am always surprised by the reactions I get when I tell people I will be gone for the year. My dentist asked if I could fly back for a 6 month cleaning, my optometrist wanted to know all about the work I would be doing in Mexico, and my physician provided me with a detailed description of the vaccinations that I could get. Support comes in many different ways and I am glad that I am experiencing this kind of support before I leave.
We all have people in our lives that support us on our journeys and it is important to remember these people every day. As you live the day to day remember those who support you and how you support others.
Strangers are just friends waiting to happen. ~Rod McKuen
These past weeks have been extremely busy with visiting family and friends and going to all kinds of medical appointments. During my time back home in Eveleth, MN I was able to celebrate with my brother Luke for his graduation from high school. I also had time to visit with my grandmother for a few games of Scrabble and some baking. As I prepare for my YAGM year I start to think about all of the things I will miss while I am away; the lake, snowboarding, my church, my family, and most of all the friends who have supported me throughout my life. I have so many wonderful people in my life that are always there from me no matter what. I am sure that these connections and support will continue as I travel to Mexico but I am sad to be so far away. It is exactly 2346.5 miles between Eveleth and Cuernavaca I am so glad that email, facebook, and skype will make the distance seem shorter.
