Lately, I have had several people ask me about how they can support me during my YAGM year. So, this post will not be abut my reflections on life but rather a quick note about how you can support me in multiple ways before, during, and after my year of service in Mexico.

Most of my summer will be spent fundraising for my YAGM year and I am completely terrified. I have never been very good at asking people for money so when I was told that I had to raise $4000 for my year of service in Mexico I was a tad bit apprehensive. How was I supposed to walk up to people and just as them for money? Fortunately the YAGM staff has provided me with many different ways to achieve my goal of $4000 by August 1st. I will be sending out letters to my family and friends, writing an article for my home congregation's newsletter, and working with churches in Grand Forks, ND where I will be living for most of the summer to raise money and support for my year of service.

I would like to explain to you why I am convinced that your support is essential to my YAGM year. It costs the ELCA $11,000 to fully support my year of service in Mexico and they have committed to contributing $6000. This money covers flights, language training, housing, food, pocket money, in-country transportation, health insurance, multiple orientations, and many more systems of support for my YAGM year. The ELCA believes in the power of mission and power of the Young Adults in Global Mission program, as do I. My time in Mexico will not only benefit me and the people I serve along side of during my year of service but it will touch many people around me as I return to the United States transformed and ready to share my many gifts.

But, today I am not asking for your financial support of my year of service in Mexico. Rather, I am asking for your thoughts, prayers, and emails before, during, and after my year of service. While I am rather excited to learn more about Mexico and encounter a new culture but I am also nervous about spending a whole year away from my family and friends. This is where you come in! I encourage you to check back to the blog often, leave me comments, and ask me questions about my time serving in Mexico. This kind of support is so important to me.

I have not received information about my exact placement in Mexico but I will find out this information soon! I can’t wait to be able to share more with you all about the details of my time spent in Mexico but realistically I might not know exactly what I will be doing until I arrive in Mexico.

Just like I have in my past posts, today I present you with another challenge. Think about the ways in which you support your friends and family in their life journey… take time today to call, send an email, or even just text some one close to you and ask them if they need anything. Make time to reconnect!

PS: I am so grateful to all of you who would like to support me financially during my year of service in Mexico! Please send me an email at and I will send you detailed information about how you can do so.
